Eco Congregation

Eco-Congregation is an ecumenical programme helping churches make the link between environmental issues and Christian faith, and respond in practical action in the church, in the lives of individuals, and in the local and global community.

We are pleased to have been recognised as an “Eco Congregation” by the Christian Environmental agency La Rocha.

In order to qualify for the award we needed to design and deliver an action plan focusing on the three main areas of church life:

• spiritual: worship and teaching
• practical:  buildings, land & church management
• mission: reaching out, both locally and globally

We worked through a checklist to help us to recognise what we already did and spot things that we could start to do (or do better). This helped us develop the action plan which we then delivered through our various groups and committees.

After being audited by two examiners we were pleased to have received the award. We continue to try to live up to the title “Eco Congregation” and recently changed much of the lighting in our church to energy efficient LED.
